Strong winds, central heating, and a stodgy diet can make dry skin even drier and more fragile. Homemade facial masks made with rich and nourishing ingredients are a brilliant technique to give dry, thirsty skin a much needed moisture boost. It is possible to make spa quality, effective face masks from ingredients you probably have in your kitchen. Furthermore, homemade facial masks are totally natural and cost very little compared to commercially made products.

Some helpful tips to enhance the benefits of your face mask:

  • Always apply facial mask to freshly cleansed skin.
  • Make sure the entire facial mask is thoroughly removed before moisturizing.
  • Try to relax during a facial mask treatment. Lying down and listening to calming music is a simple, but effective technique to induce relaxation.
  • Never leave a facial mask on for more than the specified time.
  • Always apply facial mask evenly. If a face mask is applied unevenly it can evaporate too quickly and may cause irritation.
  • Do not use a face mask more than once or twice a week.

Remember to patch test all face mask recipes before use if you have sensitive skin and to test for any allergic reactions. You can first apply a small amount of the face mask in an inconspicuous area and wait for about 15 minutes for any reaction to the face mask.
